Shelterline renovated MWAA's canine facility at Washington Dulles International Airport, upgrading electrical service and mechanical systems to support the airport's K-9 explosive detection unit while keeping the facility available for daily training and deployment.
The facility stayed in active use throughout construction, housing working detection dogs and their handlers, which required every phase of demolition and MEP work to be sequenced around live training schedules and airfield security protocols.
We phased interior demolition and system upgrades kennel-by-kennel, coordinated all site access through MWAA security clearance, and scheduled the loudest demolition work during off-peak hours to limit disruption to the dogs and handlers on site.
MWAA's K-9 unit now operates out of a fully modernized facility with upgraded power and mechanical systems, delivered without interrupting ongoing detection operations at Dulles.
Stage 01

Demolition and system upgrades were phased kennel-by-kennel, and the loudest work was scheduled during off-peak hours to avoid disrupting active K-9 training and deployment.
All Shelterline personnel were badged and cleared through MWAA security to access the secured canine facility for the duration of the project.
